Stanis Bujakera Tshiamala: "I was released from jail thanks to your efforts"
In an interview with Reporters Without Borders (RSF), the Congolese journalist, released on Tuesday after more than six months of arbitrary detention, thanked all his supporters, including RSF, and called on his colleagues in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to continue the fight for independent journalism.
He will not give up. Despite more than six months in prison and a conviction based on fabricated charges, journalist Stanis Bujakera Tshiamala has lost none of his fighting spirit.
Interviewed by RSF on Tuesday 20 March, the day after his release, Stanis Bujakera Tshiamala thanked his supporters for their mobilisation, recalling the difficult conditions faced by detainees in Makala prison in the DRC. He said he wanted to continue his fight for "independent journalism that fears nothing" and called on Congolese journalists "not to give in to any pressure", adding with determination: "The truth stands the test of time, let professionalism remain our bulwark."
